Capture our Crazy...It Won't be Like this for Long!
As a Mom with young boys, I understand crazy better than just about anyone. My kids are only 19 months apart...seriously! They are just about to start school, 5 days a week for both in the mornings and full days for my budding kindergartner. Life in my house is cray-cray almost 100% of the time!
That said, with my newly acquired quiet/free time in the mornings, I am shocked at how quickly the last 6 years have passed by. The memories of having an small child in my bed or being worn in my trusty Ergo are getting hazy and being replaced with water balloon fights and American Ninja Warrior races in my living room. I don't mourn this change of season, I am not sad that my kids are growing up - I embrace it. I truly enjoy hanging with my kids and wondering what the heck will come out of their mouths next! That said, when it's all said and done, my memories of this point in our lives won't be our 1 hour family picture session at Hunt Lodge. (Although I love those images and have them hanging on large canvases on my walls!). Instead, my memories will be of my husband rough housing with my boys, of me making endless batches of cookies and cupcakes with my little helpers, and of my boys running around like little banshees screaming "ahhhhhhh the carpet is hot lava!" And those memories, my friends, I don't ever want to fade.
So, what's a Mom to do?
Well, this Mom set about this summer to document our crazy. I got my "big camera" out at random moments to capture my boys simply playing legos, or being read to by Dad. On a day when we were cooking, I set up the camera and passed it off to my hubby, so that I can be involved in some of these memories too. And then, just like I would for a paying client, I edited. I categorized and soon I will print. Because 100 pictures on my hard drive won't ever make it into my grandkids hands. And that's what I'm doing, for my family this summer and hopefully some of yours throughout this year.
I had the privilege of shooting a new client who has quickly become a friend, in a lifestyle documentary style when she brought home her new baby last week. It was about 70% lifestyle, with my camera simply capturing their life and about 30% directed. It created what, I feel, is the perfect mix of memories. Take a look at the video below and if you think you might want me to capture your crazy sometime this year...let me know!
